Paint makes walls look new, but it also exaggerates every flaw underneath. Under even a flat finish, a raised patch, a visible seam, or a ring around a repaired hole catches the light and shows from across the room. That's why drywall repair is the first step of a good interior paint job, not an afterthought.
Small nail pops and dents need to be reset and filled. Larger holes, like doorknob damage, need the damaged area cut out, a backer installed, and a new piece of drywall fastened in. The patch is taped and covered with joint compound in thin coats, each one feathered wider than the last so the repair blends into the wall instead of sitting on top of it.
Cracks need a closer look. Hairline cracks at corners and above doors are common in Northern Colorado homes as houses settle and dry out. Simply filling them often means they come back, so they should be opened up, taped, and refinished. If a crack keeps returning, it can point to movement worth checking.
Water damage is its own category. Stained or soft drywall should be cut out and replaced, and the source of the water needs to be fixed first. Painting over a stain without sealing it means it will bleed through the new paint.
The last step is texture and primer. Matching the wall's existing texture and priming the repair keeps the finished paint uniform. A&C Painting handles drywall repair and painting together, so you get one finished wall, not a patch waiting on someone else.
