Siding keeps water out of your walls, and in Northern Colorado it deals with hail, high wind, strong sun, and constant freeze-thaw cycles. Small damage left alone tends to grow, and the repair bill grows with it. Here are five signs it's time for a closer look.
First, cracked or split boards. Hail and impact damage often leave cracks that let water behind the siding. Second, warped or buckling sections, which can mean moisture has already gotten in or the boards were fastened too tightly to move with the seasons.
Third, soft or rotting wood, especially near the ground, around windows, and at corners. Press gently with a screwdriver; if it sinks in, the board needs replacing. Fourth, gaps and failed caulk at joints, trim, and penetrations like vents and hose bibs. These are the easiest way in for water and the easiest fix.
Fifth, paint that's peeling down to bare material. Peeling often signals moisture behind the surface, and bare siding absorbs water much faster than painted siding.
The good news is that most siding problems can be repaired board by board rather than replacing the whole wall. A&C Painting repairs damaged siding, seals the joints, and paints the repairs to match, or repaints the full elevation for an even finish. Call (719) 822-8719 for a free estimate.
